Wigged Out Animals!
by aviva
I used to have a summer job in a petting zoo of sorts, and one of my favorite tasks each year was coming up with perfect names for all the animals. I called the donkeys Alexander and Napoleon. The baby rabbit that kept escaping the hutch was Houdini. I named a goat Mrs. Butler after my high school global studies teacher, and another little goat with a triangle on his head was Bandit – it looked like he was wearing a bandana.
And we had these two crested chickens at one point that I named Elvis and George Washington – Elvis’s puff tipped forward over his eyes, and George Washington’s tipped back.
Have you ever seen an animal with a wacky hairdo? Here are some of my favorites.
- Polish crested chicken – I know feather headbands are in, but this is taking the trend to a bit of an extreme…
- Komondor – this Hungarian herd dog bears an astonishing resemblance to a haystack.
- Highland cattle – Scottish cows are small and strong – and stylish, with those side-swept bangs, don’t you think?
- Emperor tamarin – this little monkey has the neatest facial hair I’ve ever seen.
- Texel guinea pig – a cute little rodent that was the victim of an unfortunate perm.
- East African crested crane – I bet you didn’t think a Mohawk could look dignified!
- Sphynx cat – ok, this one doesn’t really have any hair, but that’s what makes it weird. Personally, I think these cats look like they’ll suck out your soul, but I know at least one person who would have one as a pet if I let her. As with hairstyles, so with pets – to each her own!
- Texel guinea pig
- Sphynx cat
- Komondor dog
- Highland cow
- Emperor tamarin
- Eastern crested crane
- Polish crested chicken

Okay, that main pic is totally creepy – it’s going to be stuck in my head all day. The Komondor looks like a toy. Fun post! Thanks for the contest too.

Those are some pretty cool hairdos, but I think the Polish crested chicken takes the prize.
all those animals could use pretty hair coverups from U but I need em more my grey is startin to show & I can’t find a good colorist !!!!!
Emperor Tamarin has a neat look. Kind of a Clark Gable and Mark Twain combination.
The guinea pig is hilarious! I had never heard of that kind.
Hahaha, these are way too funny!
That Emperor tamarin seems the perfect name for him, lol love the mustache
I have never seen any animals with hairdo’s like these. I love it!! My favorite is the Texel Guinea Pig! So cute!!
Oh my gosh this is such a neat idea I love the High Land Cow he’s so styling!!
Thanks

This was hilarious! It reminded me of the time I saw a pony that looked exactly like Lil Kim! The hairdo was over an eye, and I couldn’t help but point it out to everyone with me. Thanks for the good laugh!
It also reminds me of my sister-in-law’s family’s dog. She is a beautiful little thing (no idea what kind), but she has the bushiest mustache. Everyone always comments on how she needs a good waxing. This blog posting was really great!
The Komondor Dog appears to be wearing a mop head.
I have always been a fan of the Sphynx cat. It has a most unusual look to it and it is great for someone like me who is terribly allergic to cats.

Okay, that is just wrong! Yes, it was funny, but the images were very creepy!
Yeah the guinea pig, has a nice hairstyle lol
I really like the Emperor Tamarin–I think I’d just giggle at him every time I looked at it.

I love Komondors! Other than their hair which takes a lot of grooming (also earned them the name “Mop Dog” which most people know them by) they’re supposed to be fantastic guard dogs and great family pets!
The cotton top tamarin has crazy hair. These are all so funny!
What odd photos..hahah
I love the names you came up with… sounds like a fun job.
The pics are so adorable!! Though I think the sphynx cat is just a bit too creepy/pathetic…
poor thing.
I love the Sphynx cat! I have always wanted one!
lovin’ this blog! I think the Texel guinea pig looks like someone I know, lol. j/k.
The chicken is too funny!!

I love the Highland Cow-my brother has the exact same do! All of these are great. Thanks for sharing!
The crane looks the best. I haven’t won any of your contests yet. I sure would like to!
This is the weirdest and funniest post ever!! I’m cracking up!
I have seen a couple Chinese Crested dogs with some funky hairdos. They’re hairless but they have hair on their heads. Owners sometimes dye it different colors and I love the ones with pink hair, lol
Cute pictures. Thanks.
The Guinea Pig is hilarious.

I think the highland cow could use one of your purple studded head wraps!!!
I really like the Scottish Highland Cow! Wish I could get my bangs to get that swingy, slingy, sexy look, too! Give it up girly….what’s your secret?
Interesting post … I personally like the Eastern crested crane

Komondor looks like a mop and the Texel reminds me of Tiny Tim LOL! Good names. I had a shepherd named Domino which can mean a “mask” which fit her markings. My 2 cats have prissy girl names, Missy and Annie. Thanks!
Having worked at the same petting zoo, I have to say I helped come up with some of those names! My favorites were Sigfried and Roy, the baby geese, and Frank and Stein, the chicks.
Cute animals! Of course, I think any animal with a beard, mustache, or crazy hairdo is cute.
While the Sphynx cat is weird, is it REALLY as weird as, say, a Mexican or Peruvian hairless dog?
Cool pictures! Some of them are really funny
All of g-d’s creations are… beautiful!!! All shapes and sizes, it’s a wonderful variety!
I guess we should appreciate that we dont shed hair in thewinter like animals lol
<3 this post! Great start to the day! Today, I think I most resemble your wigged donkey.
Those are some funky looking hairdos! I haven’t ever seen too crazy of a harido on an animal but my youngest sure wakes up in the morning with the crazy hair! Her little not quite two year old hair sticks up in every direction and hangs in her face and you can’t help but laugh cause even with that mess she’s just so stinkin’ cute!
