spring hatSome of us have experienced a touch of warmer weather recently, and are starting to think towards next season’s styles.  And if you’re still surrounded by snow and ice, you might want to think spring anyway – it will get to you eventually!  Here’s a rundown of some of this spring’s fashion and accessory trends, from sources like Vogue, Glamour, and Women’s Wear Daily.

  • Mixing different prints.  If you keep them in the same color family, wearing more than one pattern can look totally cool.  A floral scarf or headband will let you ease into this look, if you can coordinate it with a top or dress.
  • Desert colors and neutrals like rust and sand are all the rage this season.  Wear with black or a single other color to be in fashion, but not look totally nekked (heehee).  In the same family, citrus colors (like tangerine and lemon) are looking hot this year as well.  Bold color blocking showed up on clothing, bags, and shoes.
  • Japanese inspiration – think brightly colored satin tops and skirts, with wide obi-style belts.
  • Bucket hats were seen on the New York runways this year; they’re not just for Gilligan anymore!  Floppy newsboy caps are also big news.  For those who prefer to shade their eyes with…shades, go for something with large and circular lenses.
  • Belt purses are like a dramatically hipper (sorry, had to say it) version of the old fanny pack.  If you hate carrying a purse, or need your hands/shoulder free, try one out!
  • Textured accessories like woven bracelets, sandals, and bags are “in” this season; try a braided belt to get the look.  Big bangles are still big as well, so you can keep wearing the ones you got over the winter.
