Does it drive anyone else crazy to see people dressed all in black? Especially in the summer or at a wedding? I know it’s chic and slimming and whatever, but it’s also boring and depressing and hot!

Color psychology is the study of the effect that color has on mood, emotion, and even behavior. It’s sort of an alternative field of study used mostly by marketing and advertising departments and interior designers. According to experts, black does evoke style, power, and mystery – but it is also associated with death, formality, fear, evil, sadness, anger, and remorse. Too much black is overwhelming!Since today is the first day of summer, I feel obliged to point out that black absorbs heat more than any other color – and to better spot bugs, it is recommended that you wear light-colored clothing. Just something to keep in mind!

It’s not that I never wear black – I just never wear ALL black. For those of you who are addicted to soot, here are some simple ways to break the habit, courtesy of coveryourhair.com.

  1. Red stimulates energy, enthusiasm and confidence. Be confident in a red cable cap.
  2. Orange is a warm, fun, social color. Hit a party in an orange paisley headband.
  3. Yellow is optimistic and happy, and it encourages communication. Wear a yellow cotton tichel to confront the dude who blocked your car in your driveway, or to tell your neighbor to cut her grass already!
  4. Green is soothing, refreshing, peaceful. Try putting on a wide green striped headband when you’re expecting a stressful day.
  5. Blue is associated with trust and commitment, calm and cool. Hmm, that kind of solves the mystery of why brides are supposed to wear it! Wear a blue flower hair clip to a wedding this summer to provide some good vibes!
  6. Purple evokes creativity, spirituality, and royalty. Be queen for a day in a purple studded head wrap.
  7. Pink reminds people of romance and youth. It has red’s energy, but without the aggression. Go girly with a pink floral bandana.
