I Feel Like Blogging About Cookies
by aviva
When I sat down to write this post, I felt like talking about cookies. I really like cookies. But of course, they have nothing to do with accessories, unless you wear one pinned to your hat or something. But then I started thinking, and rather impressed myself with my own cleverness. Warning: horribly mixed metaphors ahead!
Baking cookies can be a lot like getting dressed. You have your basic staple recipes, like oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip. You know these will always look (I mean taste) good; they always come out the same every time. They’re totally reliable, and pretty much everyone likes them.
But sometimes you want to shake things up a little. Semisweet chocolate gets a little tedious (not unlike black v-neck shirts). Oatmeal raisin seems a little too healthy, and not enough decadent (nude control-top pantyhose, anyone?). So you pull out something really wild, something you bought on a whim while on vacation in a foreign cookbook. Your fig-rosewater-mocha-glazed-macaroons might look fabulous, and even taste good – but people are going to look at them funny, and might not actually want to try one.
This is where my personal style comes in – both for clothing, and for cookies. I take an ordinary recipe – or an ordinary outfit – and change it up a little. My white-chocolate-chip-craisin cookies are semi-famous in my neighborhood. Or I do orange extract instead of vanilla. Or I add coconut, macadamia nuts, and chocolate chips to oatmeal raisin cookies. This is kind of like wearing an orange and turquoise paisley tichel with a plain brown dress. Or a red polka dot belt over a white button-down and a black skirt. It’s easy to do, doesn’t take much extra effort, and looks (tastes!) fabulous. And it’s different. It’s nice to shake things up on a regular basis, don’t you think?

The white chocolate chip craisin cookies sound to die for, and the turquoise orange tichel is gorgeous!
Different people definitely have different tastes in cookies, clothing, and head wear. That is what makes the world go round! (FUNNY my CAPTCHA is zwieback for – must have known you blogged about cookies!)
oh my gosh..those cookies in that picture are making me drool!!! I want cookies now and my oven is broken
very cute analogy! Sometimes we all need to spice it up a bit
Agreed! But I do still love a good oatmeal raisin cookie!
Orange extract instead of Vanilla is a great idea for a different flavor!
Chocolate chip cookies are a staple to me, but I do like to experiment with peanut butter chips (instead of chocolate chips) and the butterscotch chips. Cookies and milk are a simple, but favorite dessert still after all these years.
I LOVE cookies!
very much like your examples of shakin’ things up
@Lunachique here and I love love love cookies! So awesome! I try not to bake them very often since it is just my husband and I and we tend to eat all of them in one go which isn’t good! So so amazing though. I would really like to bake some Heath bar cookies instead of chocolate chip just for something different.
The differences is what makes everything special and unique!I’m off to make some cookies
I love to toss in Pecans with my Oatmeal Raisin cookies. The best yet is to use Coconut oil when making brownies. Yummmm!!
I own over a dozen scarves, Thank you CYH!! I love beings able to have a scarf that will go with what ever I pull together.
Blessings,
Navah/Teresa
The purple version of the tichel is also pretty.
I like to add butterscotch chips to my cookies and a bright color like hot pink or a bright blue to make my outfits more interesting.
i miss chocolate chip cookies. i cant eat chocolate
I am really in the mood for some cc cookies.
Not worth the calories!
Interesting metaphor. I’d go for some of the cookies!! =)
Love the idea of shaking things up with cookies! Hmmm, now that its a bit cooler, I think I might just bake some up today!!
I definitely spice up my outfits with headbands!
Yum! Now I want cookies for breakfast. Well, I prefer cookie dough over any baked cookie.
Hmmm…oddly enough, chocolate chip cookies are my favorite and I do seem to have a lot of brown in my wardrobe. It’s one of my favorite colors.
Its true about cookies, dressing and everything else. If you parent by following a bunch of rules you read in a book (recipe)the results will be half baked. Needs your own personal touch.
Man! Now I am hungry LOL. It is easy (style wise) to get stuck in a rut. Thats why I love your site
Sure is… I was hoping you’d posted a great recipe here, but happy to comment and enter anyway!
Great idea! The shaking things up part, I mean
wow,now im hungry looking at all those cookies
orange extract humm that sounds delicious. I could eat some right now.
I LOVE chocolate chip cookies!! We found a really good recipe a couple years back that everyone LOVES! (We have one friend who gets a plate of them almost every time we see him)
This post made me hungry! I want cookies NOW!
I add M & M’s instead of chocolate chippets, when I want an extra burst of colour to plain chocolate chip cookies
sometimes with cookies and clothing- you just need an accent piece- a knockout scarf or with cookies multicolored choc chips
Very interesting comparison to achieve personal identity
really you had to put this up when I am A. hungry
B. on a diet and C. love cookies!!
P.S. my favorite is Girl Scout Cookies Samoas (love them so much I hide them from my family!)
I’m going to bake cookies next week! This post has truly gotten me in the mood for baking!
Mmm, great now I want cookies! lol
I’m only a beginner baker, because I concentrate on meals, but I do this all the time with dinners. My husband loves how I can make any ordinary dinner a new dinner!
I just love cookies. Mmmm….cookies.
This is my first time here (just subscribed this morning). I was actually told about this blog by a friend at Sheva Brochas last night
It looks great! Great advice ….. and cookies too!
Sounds and looks delicious!!
Haha, this is great!
Such a fun analogy…
I agree… but in my family I am famous for my chocolate chip cookies… that’s everyone’s #1 request when they need me to bake for them.
Now that I’m hungry!! all the cookies sound so yummy!
And the orange and truqouise paisley tichel is so fantastic! i love the colors!
Love this post!
mmm now I want some coookies!!! That was very cleaver simile!!!
i love cookies! these sound so yummy!
MMMM, great ways of “shakin” cookies up! Your white-chocolate-chip-craisin cookies sound delish! And yes, there are so many ways of changing the recipe just a little so cookies still taste great, but are a whole new flavor.

Okay very cute. Now I want the accessories and the cookies!
Instead of chocolate chips, I make double chocotate cookies with peanut butter chips and chocolate chunks….will have to try adding some orange just for me:) YUMMMMM,
LOve the tichels and snoods, they give such good coverage, and I don’t have to actually put my hair in a bun to use them.
no time to bake- wish i could.
Oh. This was not a good post to read when I’m trying to cut back on my cookie intake! Your cookies sound delicious!
Very neat analogy, but it totally makes sense when you think about it. I don’t like nuts (am allergic to most of them, but not deathly so), but otherwise cool analogy; makes me hungry too!
I never thought of it that way, but your analogies are very true. Basic cookie baking is a lot like basic fashion, and everyone likes to change up the recipe once and a while -something really good can be discovered or created. A very insightful blog post, loved it!!
Yummmmm – sugar and spice and everything nice
wow sound good to me yum!
Now I’m hungry and I want to shop. Good article, but not good for the pocket book! lol
Now im hungry too! and i just ate breakfast!
White chocolate chip macadamia nut – with coconut. Insane!
very rarely am I adventurous with either cookies or clothes
Yummy! I am going to have to get to baking too!
I do think it’s good to shake things up, but hubby does not. I tell him he is my dependably delicious vanilla ice cream, based on this article
So on our brownie pans, half get the nuts. You can imagine the plain cookies that he loves, and the interesting things that I try in mine.
no i am going to look for cookies. yum
cookies cookies cookies! thats a fabulous cookbook from King Arthur Flour we bought for our 10 year old daughter as a gift and we all reap the benefits!
The white-chocolate-chip-craisin cookies sound delicious. I usually mix things up a little bit, too–that probably started from needing to substitute something and having it turn out pretty darn good.
Hope you have a great weekend.
cute! and im eating a choco chip cookie as i read this!
Speaking of changing it up- I made some cookies with strawberry cake mix, coconut, and pecans- should have added chocolate chips, too! They were awesome good. And yes, mixing it up in the fashion world makes life more interesting, too. Which is why I want a snood.
cute and original! and im eating a chocolate chip cookie as i reAd this!
mmmmm, cookies is a great topic for a blog post. I don’t care what the actual theme of the blog is!
Oh Cookies and clothing, two of my fave things!
God bless! I ordered a tichel and a bandana yesterday from CYH!
I love it! I am blessed (cursed?) with the confidence to borrow styles from other cultures that work for me, so I’m not above wearing turkish pants while wrapping my head in a traditional Jewish style. I may get funny looks and nobody I know wants to try my “flavor,” but I’m comfortable and happy, and that’s what’s important!
How clever! I really love that Red polka-dot belt. Wearing a plain black V-neck right at this moment… could use some spicing up!
Just wanted to say I’ve been reading through for just a couple of days now. I like what I’m reading, and look forward to future reading!! Oh…and I like the coverings, too!!
Yum, cookies!
M&Ms remind me of my childhood, snowballs remind me of Christmas…
ooooy-gooooy chocolate chip reminds me to call my daughter to ask how she is… and to remember her with cookie face at her birthday party when she was maybe 6!
Cookies are like a delicious time machine!
Never really thought about cookies and accessories as alike but I see your point. I tend to bake the same sort of things and wear the same colors. Makes me think about mixing it all up….a little change is good!
