Now That It’s Nice Out…5 Fun Things to Do Outside
by aviva
I don’t know about you, but if I don’t get out every day, I’ll crack up. I don’t mind rain, I don’t mind snow, I don’t mind heat; what I need is fresh air! And if I can find something enjoyable – or necessary – to do outside rather than inside, I’ll do it. So grab a hat and join me this weekend at one of the following fun outdoor activities!
- Do your grocery shopping at a farmer’s market instead of a supermarket. You’ll get better fruits and vegetables for cheaper, and you never know what other funky products you’ll come across!
- Hit a festival on the weekend; there are all kinds of hobby and craft events going on in the spring and summer, plus state and county fairs and so on. My personal favorite is a Renaissance Faire; you’ll see people wearing all kinds of cool costumes, so feel free to dress however you want – a Crocheted Snood will fit right in and even be somewhat historically accurate!
- Try a berry-picking place, or a corn maze; these are great places for dates, or to entertain your kids.
- Go canoeing. You don’t have to be an expert to be able to have a good time on a quiet river, and you never know what you’ll see – I once spotted some otters on the Delaware River.
- If you think it’s too windy to go out, pop a hat or bandana on your head and go fly a kite!
JUST ADDED!
religious reasons
If only those massive turkey legs they sell at the RenFaire were kosher!
I wore a tichel while at an international festival in our city. I fit right in! The tichel also spared my ears from sunburn.
Berry picking sounds like a lot of fun but in NY it’s too early. I will spend 2 hours today and tomorrow watching my son’s baseball game and =could really use a feminine cap to a) keep hair in place b) protect my color from getting sun bleached 3) to just feel good.
I plan on getting the rest of my veggies in the ground this weekend also
That’s definitely some fun things to do. I especially like shopping at the local farmer’s market.
Berry picking! Mmm, just got strawberries and ready to make the shortcake to go along ☺ Wanna win your contest, pretty please with a strawberry on top? LOL
I love going berry picking! Apple picking, too. It’s so fun to gather your own fresh produce
fun fun fun! star gazing also when the days are a little too hot!
On Tuesdays here in Fredericksburg they have a “Tuesdays in the Park” event with music and activities for little kids. There’s also a farmer’s market in the same park so you can grab a healthy snack while you’re there!
My family’s guilty pleasure, or I should say my kids’ guilty pleasure is playing outside in the rain! My kids love raindrops and puddles and mud.
They have so much fun outside that I can’t help but join them!
Now as for I cover my hair, I used to do it back in the day and I miss it. I miss wearing all the lovely hats and headcoverings that are available so I’m starting to cover slowly but surely.
Great ideas – love the outdoors except when we have brutal heat in central Florida
Kayaking & Hiking is also really fun – you can find trails in your area by going to any of the state parks.
I love spring! It’s so nice to be able to get out after being inside most of the winter!
I’m rather partial to the snood. It keeps my hair off my neck and back in the hot and humid weather typical of summer around here.
I too get stir crazy staying in house all day! Great ideas!
Living in DC, it is the perfect time to go visit the National monuments!
Kayaking really is some fun!
I never really cared for the beach before, but this year I plan on going all the time… and I just live a few minutes away now!
The kids are begging for the sprinklers and a water fight outside. It’s really fun when the dog gets in on the action!!

All fun ideas, as long as its not too hot outside! My family is planning on going letterboxing this weekend, which is a fun, FREE, hicking, scavengar hunt activity. And Ill be wearing a Pre-tied!
Cool tips! My favorite thing to do outdoors is sit on a sun chair and read a book! Even better if its on a beach
Those sound fun, but none are in season yet here in northern Colorado. I’ll have to wait a few weeks. In the mean time I guess I’ll stick to necessary things like clearing out my raspberry patch, weeding, and planting some new things.
I agree about the turkey legs >:)
With the nicer weather I can take a walk!!
It’s already so hot out. Dressing tzniut makes the heat all the more unbearable. Outdoor activities are pretty much the husband’s responsibility. I’m perfectly content indoors.
I cover because its easier than fixing my hair! No really its an outward symbol of submission that keeps my attitude in check.
Love it! Hopefully we’re going to get to go to the blueberry patch when they’re ripe! I haven’t been yet!
swimming & exercising in the pool, going to outdoor concerts, picnic, taking the dog for a walk, going to the beach reap
Ditto on the stir-crazy part. Especially if it’s nice, but even if it’s not so nice out, I need fresh air to keep me sane! I can’t understand why my mom stays in all day, especially if it’s nice out. Go figure.
swimming in the backyard with the family. Camping. Going to the beach.
I tweeted this.
we like to go tubing dwon the river it takes about 3 hrs , the scenery is great, you can stop and picnic on the way , and it is a great family outing
i love farmers markets!
I enjoy walking to farmer’s markets and sampling the local bounty.
Love the ideas for getting fresh air. Now if only it weren’t so hot in Florida.

This is the perfect time of year to go for long walks with the dog. Not too hot and plenty of flowers in bloom for us to enjoy
yum, berry picking! And corn maze sounds like fun… until you get lost. LOL!
gr8 ideas, but I personally just came home from my rare trip clothes shopping (walking)& I’m plotzing :/… [very warm & humid out]
All the activities outside sound fabulous
Kids wanted to try strawberry picking, again maybe we should do that. We cover to protect from the sun!
Gardening with the family – the kids love getting dirty! (followed by bathtime!)
Anything outside makes me happy!
We’ll be hitting the farmer’s market in the early am, then, if it doesn’t pour this weekend, we’ll go horseback riding later.
We go out looking at rocks, and we also go to the local zoo, and … all sorts of interesting things. Also, tweeted. http://twitter.com/thecookiemomma/status/14455887283
We plan to go to a new Farmer’s Market tomorrow.
I love going to local festivals! I go through the tourist pamphlets and write them all down on my calander at the beginning of the year, local pow wows are a favourite too!
I love having my hair wrapped while I’m out having fun! I don’t have to worry about how my hair looks or getting in my face – I can just concentrate on what’s going on around me.
Great ideas! Tomorrow I will be at a friend’s daughter’s first birthday party held in a park. I’ll be wearing a pre-tied scarf! Perfect for a casual, fun day.
I wish I could be out everyday! Just returned from a camping trip and then spent the day outside feasting at a chicken BBQ. I Know exactly what you mean about needing fresh air!
We didn’t make it to the farmers market this weekend, but we are going to spend some time out in the garden tomorrow. And berry picking is definitely on the agenda come July when the places open. Hubby’s going fishing tomorrow too… hoping that he’ll be able to bring me home plenty to have a yummy fish fry tomorrow night!
I live a block away from the beach so I try to hit the boardwalk everyday!
